Estonian energy company Diotech has installed a battery storage system in Estonia’s largest business district, \u00dclemiste City, as a pilot project, with the task of making the use of electricity in the business district’s internal network more efficient and participating in the power exchange.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c\u00dclemiste City is a smart business district and smart electricity management ensures the security of supply of the district, helps keep costs under control and contributes to achieving climate goals,\u201d said Sten P\u00e4rnits, Chairman of the Board of Mainor \u00dclemiste. \u201cElectricity storage technologies offer significant advantages in the commercial real estate sector, both in terms of economic and environmental protection, and also contribute to the creation of smart buildings to ensure maximum energy efficiency,\u201d added P\u00e4rnits.<\/p>\n

Battery storage systems balance and make the use of electricity in the internal network more efficient, and also provide an opportunity to participate in the power exchange and have a positive impact on security of supply. In addition, the battery storage system will also participate in the frequency reserve market.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe installed a battery storage system with a 1 MW power and a capacity of 2 MWh in the \u00dclemiste City business park, the main goal of which is to determine the potential of the battery storage system and help the business park reach a conclusion on how and under what conditions it would be reasonable to expand the battery storage system in the future for energy efficiency,\u201d said Raivo Videvik, CEO of Diotech.<\/p>\n

Diotech acted as a system integrator under the contract and handed over a turnkey solution to the client. Diotech will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the battery storage system.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough this is initially a rather small project for us, it gave us very good experience in how to integrate a battery storage system into the established energy system of a functioning business park. Considering that electricity is a very important input cost for most companies, it is worth following the example of \u00dclemiste City when optimizing its use,\u201d said Videvik.<\/p>\n
